2001: won the competition for research astronomer at the Astrophysical Observatory of Catania, where, to date, leads research on objects Star of various kinds.
2002: returned for a short period to conduct research in the field of hot stars at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in United States of America.
2002: goes to La Silla (Chile), home to one of the biggest astronomical observatories on the earth, conduct observations on the composition chemistry of stellar objects of particular astrophysical interest
• Since 2002: an intense activity to study stellar objects of various kinds, by chemically peculiar stars with pulsating stars. For this purpose use, going on site, various research facilities, such as the "Telescopio Nazionale Galileo" installed at the island of La Palma (Canary Islands), telescopes, ESO (Chile), moves to various universities and centers European research, the latest series of the University of Aarhus (Denmark) where he collaborated with the European group that manages the data from the space telescope Kepler.

light pollution of John Catanzaro

The term pollution is usually used to indicate contamination and degradation of natural elements were important for our lives and our health : speaks for example of air pollution we breathe or the water we drink, rather than the food we eat. One form of pollution that you do not hear often is that bright, that the insane upward distribution of light intensity in excess of artificial natural sources of light and cause serious damage to the conservation of a precious commodity which is the night sky.
There are now several definitions that describe fully the phenomenon of light pollution, a phenomenon due to the reckless dissemination of lighting public and private that often, without any need, light up the sky over the land. In addition to determining a huge waste of energy, which makes it virtually impossible to observe the night sky not only from big cities, but also relatively sparsely populated areas. Although this problem has not yet fully breach in consciousness, something is starting to change, so that UNESCO, in a resolution a few years ago, said the dark sky heritage for future generations.
astronomers, who for obvious reasons they are interested to put their instruments under dark skies, are now increasingly forced to look for locations away from city lights, often in inaccessible areas and ranges, as are the telescopes of ESO (European Southern Observatory) located on the Chilean Andes or our TNG (Telescopio Nazionale Galileo) that is located on the Roque de los Muchachos in the island of La Palma, Canary Islands.
also a more efficient use of lighting, both public and private, would lead to a significant reduction in fuel consumption and hence to a energy saving in our economy would certainly benefit not indifferent.
